In the mid-2000s it started to feel like a lot of people in power mistook jingoism for patriotism and this song is a satire on that subject. In the decade since I wrote it it's become less funny because I think a lot of people earnestly and openly believe what the song is making fun of by saying ironically and satirically.

That's what we mean when we say "irony is dead" I guess.
